REA OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES RENEWABLE ASSET MANAGEMENT COMPANY (RAMCO) TO STRENGTHEN SUSTAINABILITY AND VALUE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and the Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria (INFRACORP) has officially launched the Renewable Asset Management Company (RAMCO), a specialized platform designed to strengthen the professional management, optimization and long-term sustainability of renewable-energy assets across Nigeria.
The launch held on Wednesday, 26th August 2026 at Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja, marks a significant step in Nigeria’s renewable-energy development, shifting the focus beyond the deployment of infrastructure towards ensuring that existing renewable-energy assets remain productive, sustainable and capable of delivering long-term value.
With Nigeria’s growing portfolio of mini-grids and solar infrastructure supporting communities, public institutions, agriculture and businesses, RAMCO will provide an institutional framework for effective asset management beyond project commissioning, with emphasis on performance, maintenance, operational sustainability, revenue management and preservation of infrastructure value.
At the launch, the Honorable Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe stated “RAMCO would bring “professional stewardship, governance discipline, sustainability and measurable performance” to the management of renewable energy assets. The Ministry of Power would support RAMCO as part of broader reforms aimed at improving grid stability, sector liquidity, asset optimization and the mobilization of private capital for power infrastructure”.
The Managing Director/CEO of REA, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, underscored the strategic importance of RAMCO to the sustainability and long-term value of Nigeria’s renewable-energy infrastructure. He stated “RAMCO would serve as the agency’s institutional response to the challenge by professionally managing publicly financed renewable energy assets, contracting competent operators, metering, billing and collecting payments, as well as maintaining the equipment”.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of MOFI, Dr Armstrong Takang stated “the failure of relatively simple components such as solar panels or batteries could render entire projects unusable if there was no effective maintenance framework. MoFI had developed a national asset register of Federal Government projects that had been checked, verified and evaluated”.
Their remarks emphasized the need to move beyond simply expanding electricity infrastructure to ensuring that existing assets remain productive, efficiently managed and capable of delivering sustainable value to Nigerians. They also highlighted the potential of RAMCO to strengthen the economic value of public infrastructure, attract greater private-sector investment, preserve and optimize renewable-energy assets, and create a more sustainable ecosystem for continued electricity access and future infrastructure development.
Through the professional management and aggregation of renewable-energy assets, RAMCO has the potential to create investible portfolios capable of attracting banks, institutional investors and other financing partners. Improved asset performance and potential capital recycling could also help mobilize resources for additional electrification projects and strengthen the financing ecosystem for Nigeria’s power sector.
The initiative will further support the continued operation of renewable-energy assets that enable productive activities in agriculture, healthcare, education, businesses, digital services and small-scale manufacturing.
The launch therefore represents a new phase in Nigeria’s renewable-energy journey, one focused not only on expanding electricity access, but also on sustainability, productivity, professional asset management and the efficient mobilization of infrastructure value to support future electricity development.
The Rural Electrification Agency remains committed to supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to expand reliable and sustainable electricity access across Nigeria while creating an enabling environment for private-sector participation, investment and innovation in the renewable-energy sector.
