PROMOTION, INFORMATION & OUTREACH DIRECTORATE

The Directorate is primarily charged with the responsibility of promoting the mandate, programmes and activities of the Agency which includes the following:

  •  Information campaigns and sensitization outreach activities on rural electrification.
  •  Sensitizing and forming rural communities into Rural Electricity Users Cooperative Societies (REUCS). REUCS are expected to own, operate, and maintain Rural Electricity Systems mainly in Cooperation with DisCos and other professional private sector companies providing the know-how required to operate such systems. It is REA’s sustainability platform.
  •  Advocacy visits for interfacing between the Agency, DisCos, Promoters, States/Local Governments and other Stakeholders for the purpose of collaborative and partnership arrangements.
  •  Development/ publication of promotional literature/material used for raising public awareness about the Agency’s services e.g. REA Spotlight, News Journal, Corporate Profile, REUCS Brochures and Bye-Laws etc.
  •  Promotion of low cost electrification options
  •  Communication of information on the Rural electrification fund (REF) to stakeholders and promoters
  •  Monitoring the progress of the sector and the impact of rural electrification.
  •  Liaising with and informing the Media, REA’s stakeholders, promoters, ministries, NGOs etc, about the activities of REA, in order to establish a sustainable working relationship between the Agency and these stakeholders.
  •  Printing and publishing of REA annual reports.
  •  Information dissemination to the public, through the use of various communication channels such as Print, Electronic and Social Media.

 

1.0 UNITS UNDER THE DIRECTORATE

The Directorate is divided into three units namely: Media Relations and Advertisement (MR/AD), Stakeholders and Intergovernmental Relations (SH/IGR) and Promotion and Publication Unit (P/P),all headed by the Assistant Directors.

 

2.1. MEDIA RELATIONS/ADVERTISMENT UNIT (MR/AD)

This unit is responsible for information dissemination to the public using various communication channels such as print and electronic, as well as the social media and the Agency’s website. The unit is also charged with the responsibility of establishing sustainable working relationship between the Agency, media and its stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Overseeing in consultation with the Zonal Coordinator and Zonal Promotion, Information & Outreach officer, the promotional activities of sensitization, outreaches, formation of REUCS, advocacy/courtesy calls and stakeholder’s intermediation, etc, in the North-Central and South-West zones to achieve the mandate and programmes of the Agency.

- Assist the zonal offices with organizing regional sensitization and outreaches for rural communities, State Electricity Boards (SEBs), Local Government Authorities (LGAs) and other stakeholders about the mandate and programmes of the Agency and REA’s REF for rural electrification programmes under a collaboration.

- Assist in organizing of Radio/Television, Town hall programmes with mass appeal to sell the Agency’s mandate and programmes.

- Using approved promotional printed materials, mass and social media, seminars, and Internet/Website for raising public awareness campaigns.

- To get feedback from the zonal offices on the views of state governments, Local Governments authorities (LGAs) and communities

- Writing commentaries, rejoinders, articles in the print media/REANews Journal as well as monitoring of news reports about REA and Power sector in both print, electronics and social media.

- Organizing press coverage on the activities/events concerning the Agency.

- Placement of Advert for REA programmes/activities and materials for public awareness campaign.

- Coordinate and organise production of billboards, posters, hand bills, etc, as advert materials for public awareness campaign.

- Carrying out other assignments as may be directed by the Director.

 

2.2 STAKEHOLDERS/INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS UNIT (SH/IGR)

This unit is responsible for interfacing between the Agency and promoters, stakeholders, Government Organizations, and rural communities, in order to establish a sustainable working relationship for the purpose of collaboration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Overseeing in consultation with the zonal coordinator and zonal promotion officer the promotional activities of sensitization, outreaches, formation of Rural Electricity Users Cooperative Societies (REUCS), Advocacy/courtesy calls and stakeholder’s intermediation, etc. in the North-East and North-West zones to achieve the mandate and programmes of the Agency.

- Assist the zonal offices with organizing regional sensitization and outreaches for rural communities, State Electricity Boards (SEBs), Local Government Authorities (LGAs) and other stakeholders about the mandate and programmes of the Agency and REA’s REF for rural electrification programmes under a collaboration.

- Organizing Advocacy/Courtesy visits to stakeholders such as DISCOs, State and Local Governments, as well as promoters of rural electrification for the purpose of building a sustainable collaborative relationship for the development of rural electrification programmes within their jurisdictions.

- To get feedback from the zonal offices on the views of state governments, Local Governments authorities (LGAs) and communities

- Interfacing with stakeholders both in public and private sectors for promoting rural electrification programmes.

- Organizing Pre/Commissioning of completed REA projects in collaboration with relevant authorities and other stakeholders

- Responding to inquiries from stakeholders and the public on rural electrification programmes

- Production of REAs branded corporate gift items to be used as souvenirs

- Carrying out other assignments as may be directed by the Director (PI&O)

 

2.3 PROMOTION/PUBLICATION UNIT (P/P)

This unit is responsible for coordinating all promotional activities and the development/publication of promotional literature/materials used as promotional materials to educate, inform and guide stakeholders and the public on REA activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES::

- Overseeing in consultation with the zonal coordinator and zonal PI&O the promotional activities of sensitization, outreaches, formation of Rural Electricity Users Cooperative Societies (REUCS), Advocacy/Courtesy calls and stakeholder’s intermediation, etc in the South-South and South-East zones to achieve the mandate and programmes of the Agency.

- Assist the zonal offices with organizing regional sensitization and outreaches for rural communities, State Electricity Boards (SEBs), Local Government Authorities (LGAs) and other stakeholders about the mandate and programmes of the Agency and REA’s REF for rural electrification programmes under a collaboration.

- Assist in the Development /Publication of promotional literature and materials to educate, inform and guide investors, Stakeholders and rural; communities about rural electrification programmes and services.

- To get feedback from the zonal offices on the views of state governments, Local Governments authorities (LGAs) and communities

- Organizing and coordinating of REA stands/pavilion during international or invitational exhibitions, to showcase and promote its activities to investors.

- Coordinating and collating relevant information/documents in respect of promotional activities for the six geopolitical zones

- Carry out other assignments as may be directed by the Director (PI&O).
